Comments: Joyce and I moved back to Cullman in 2014 bought an older home on 2nd Ave NE and renovated it, and we’ve always got a project of some kind ,that’s where we’ll retire. We attend Temple Baptist church and love living back in Cullman. Well at least I do:  Joyce is Florida girl. She’s a retired English teacher, taught at Gardendale High School , where we lived for 16 years before moving to Hoover.

Comments: I retired from teaching 7th grade after 20 years at Cullman Middle School. I know it's a cliche, but it never felt like work. My wife Rhonda and I enjoy working around our home and keeping our grandson two days each week. Most of my former football teammates have started meeting for breakfast at least once a month. This has been such a blessing. We all seem to have problems at this stage of our lives. That old camaraderie we had 50 years ago now takes the form of support and prayers for each other and our families. I'm thankful for each one of them and look forward to reconnecting with classmates at our reunion.

Occupation: Professor, College of Human Sciences, Auburn U.
Retired? Yes
Hobbies: music, movies, biking, traveling, going to AU football and basketball games
Comments: I retired from Auburn University in 2015 and am now emeritus professor, which means that I had a good run and still dabble in research and writing. After 40 or so years in academia, it seemed like a good time to do something else. What might that be? This is a question for many of us, including a good many of my friends and colleagues who have yet to make the jump because they worry about what comes next. I followed a typical post-retirement path, with some international and domestic travel, a little golf, volunteer work and community service, even gardening if required. But mostly I’m interested in… not working. This means I spend a lot of time reading, hiking and exercising, listening to live and recorded music, going to as many AU sporting events (especially basketball and football) as possible, and watching movies and so-called “prestige” TV from the Lazy Boy. I live in the house on Pinedale Drive that I’ve lived in for the past 30 years, with my wife Jackie (also a retired AU professor). The house is in one of Auburn’s older neighborhoods, a few blocks from campus, making jaunts downtown for events small (dinner out) and large (rolling Toomer’s) easy and familiar. Our son Stefan, who works at Thermo-Fisher Scientific in Auburn, often joins us. I would not have thought when I left Cullman for Auburn in 1969 that I would end up spending most of my adult life here. It’s not perfect, but it’s home.
