50th Reunion Planning

Here's a look at the people and the planning going into our 50th reunion.

Previous Reunions

Thanks to submissions from very helpful classmates, there's a new section with photos from previous reunions. Check it out! And send in more photos if you have any from these earlier events.

Here you can see a montage of morphing photos... from those in the annual to a more current photo. Kind of fun to watch... and sometimes kind of shocking!
In order to see the display, you may have to click on one of the montage squares to enable Flash technology, which is completely benign.

There is also a Facebook with class information:

A Poem From Larry

I received the following poem from Mark Persall, who wrote: "Jim Swofford brought me a copy of this poem which was hand-written by Larry Sparks and sent to him in 1995. I wanted to share it with those who cared about Larry and appreciated his kindness and intellect."

I had not known that Larry Sparks was a poet, but indeed he was, and a fine one. It seems very appropriate to share his writing with the class as a whole.

Welcome to Paradise Found, my friend
Where life and love still abound, my friend.
Where we cultivate the very best part
And carefully store within the heart
The choicest fruit of the human crop
Emotion wild and free.

Let us know the one behind the name.
Are the two of us quite the same?
Is life what you want it to be?
They’ve tempted me from time to time.
Come join the world, leave yours behind.
But within the recess of the mind,
The idylls of Paradise Found, I find
A wealth that others may never know.
My arms are open wide.

Larry Sparks, 1982
"...and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."

Remembering Those From Years Ago...

A few years ago, I was sitting and recalling all the people I knew along the way, and especially those from high school. I suddenly realized that some of these people I had not laid eyes since we graduated. People go their own ways, we separate and, for one reason or another, our paths fail to cross. Even for the people I have re-encountered, there is nevertheless in my mind that same mental image from all those decades ago. They've never aged: they still dance, and play sports, and walk down the hallways. In a way, it's a kind of time machine. Or perhaps it's more like a magical Fountain Of Youth. There in our mind's eye, they're still the same youthful innocents (some more innocent than others!).

Anyway, I wrote a song about it. It's called "Fountain Of Youth", and I humbly present it here.
