Musician

Instruments/Capabilities:

  • Drum set (acoustic and electronic) and hand percussion

Experience: Pit orchestras for various musicals (Music Man, GodSpell, etc.); Jazz trios (piano+bass+drums); Numerous rock and R&B bands. I've been a pop/rock drummer since 1969, played seriously in mid-70s (cover bands for Allman Bros, Led Zeppelin, Wishbone Ash, Beatles, Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple, lots of Disco), hiatus when I went into the Coast Guard, picked them back up and have since become more interested in playing a variety of musical styles:

  • Jazz (straight-ahead and fusion)
  • Blues
  • R&B/Funk
  • Folk
  • Contemporary Christian

Other: My only regular gig at the moment (besides my job at Red Hat) is as the
drummer/leader of a contemporary group at Our Lady Queen of the Universe Catholic Church (yes, drums and electric guitar in a Catholic Church...could be the end times ahead). I read percussion clef music. I own a Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute Nouveau set with a variety of cymbals and snares, mainly oriented for small venue performances. I own a variety of microphones for mic'ing the acoustic set (overhead condensers, bass drum mics, snare and tom mics), as well as a couple of electronic sets. I enjoy playing in pit orchestras, but wouldn't be opposed to other gigs.
