Preferences: The list demonstrates that
I have directed a little bit of everything – Shakespeare,
Shepard, Simon, and Gertrude Stein; musicals, cutting edge,
and a healthy dose of theatre for young audiences. Given my
preference, however, I would have to say I am drawn to small
cast modern plays with minimalist production demands: I like
to call them “chamber plays.” I love Chekhov, Beckett, and
Lanford Wilson, too. I prefer to seek out contemporary
scripts rather than the same old warhorses. I have been in Huntsville since fall 2002
(on the faculty of Alabama A&M) and have only directed one
show during that time. Since I am feeling the urge to direct
again, I won’t limit my options by being too picky about
preferences.
