Synopsis: La Cage aux Folles is a musical with book by Harvey Fierstein and lyrics and music by Jerry Herman. Based on the 1973 French play by Jean Poiret and subsequent 1978 French-Italian screen version (one of the most popular foreign films ever released in the United States), the musical focuses on a gay couple: Georges, the manager of a Saint-Tropez nightclub featuring drag entertainment, and Albin/Zaza, his star attraction - and the adventures that ensue when Georges' son brings home his fiancée's ultra-conservative parents to meet them. The musical's 1983 Broadway production overcame competition from several strong new shows that season, winning six Tony Awards out of nine nominations, including the top honors of Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book. It ran for 1,761 performances. In 2004 La Cage aux Folles was revived and went on to win two Tony’s and three Drama Desk Awards. The recent movie "The Birdcage" with Nathan Lane and Robin Williams, was based on the two earlier French films and the original musical.

Other Info: Featuring fabulous costumes designed
by Gay Broad, Bob Baker and Sue Leatherman, the show is sure to have
plenty of eye candy. With the musical direction by Ron Simmons, the
music will be a delight to the ear. The production will showcase our
newly installed turntable custom built for us by our incredible
volunteer, Lynn Broad. Leading the list of performers is Gary Knight
as Georges and Doug Maze as the flamboyant entertainer ZaZa his life
partner, Jay Poff as their son, Chuck Puckett as the
ultra-conservative politician Mr. Dindon, Gaylen Pugh as Mrs.
Dindon and Amanda Lund as their daughter Anne.
Expertly choreographed by the very talented Marianne Windham, the
dance numbers are, to say the least, festive, appropriate and
bursting with energy. The can-can production alone is one of the
most entertaining of all, with a troop of eight dancers giving it
their all.
