Independent Musical Productions announces auditions for "Big River".

Date and Times:

Auditions will be held at 3312 Long Avenue, Huntsville, AL.

Synopsis: Musical adaptation of Mark Twain's "Huckeleberry Finn." Music and Lyrics by Roger Miller.

Directed By: Peter-John Sligting

Cast Requirements: Multi age, multi-cultural cast required. Must be 16 or older. Cast size 40-45.

Be Prepared: Be prepared to sing at least 32 bars of music. Bring your sheet music, accompanist will be provided. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing for dancing/movement purposes. Parts available for multiple ages.

Synopsis: Winner of the 1985 Tony Award for Best Play! The second hilarious installment of Neil Simon's acclaimed trilogy follows a naive Eugene Jerome as young army recruit during World War II, going through his basic training, learning about life, and developing his "Writer's Sensibility" at boot camp in Mississippi. His sadistic drill sergeant is only part of Eugene's awakening journey in which he encounters an eclectic group of recruits, and his first experiences with sex and love. Adult content and language.

HCCA announces auditions for "Belles and Whistles", by Elaine Hubbard, music by Mary Ann Bishop.

Synopsis: BELLES AND WHISTLES, Or The Villain’s Loco Motive Is On The Wrong Track! A Musical Melodrama written and directed by Elaine L. Hubbard iIn collaboration with Mary Ann Bishop. Music/Arranging/conducting by Mary Ann Bishop. Lyrics by Elaine Hubbard. In the early days of the Great Depression, Nell Gauge, stationmaster for the Flagstop Depot is under the gun to pull the whole town out of trouble and back on the map. The villainous Hugh Swindler has bought up almost all the property in Flagstop, evicting everyone so he can claim all the land for its mysterious value. No longer on the map and forgotten by the U. S. Government, the train doesn’t even stop there anymore! Nell has kindly taken in the dwindling population so that the train station also serves as the town hall, courthouse, post office, general store, schoolhouse, saloon, hotel, jail, bank, church, and the Radio Station. All your favorites are there, too: the lovely Heroine, our handsome Hero, a somewhat trusty Sidekick, Nell’s Radio Show performers, who, with a host of stranded train passengers all scramble to foil our Villain’s plans as they broadcast their dramatic version of their case all the way to Washington, DC. Do they succeed? Will Nell’s secret extract help end the Depression? Do Ginger S. Knapp and Sterling Worth fall in love? Is there really a recipe for kumquat and rutabaga soufflé? Cast Requirements: CAST OF CHARACTERS (5 women, 2 card girls, 6 men, plus an MC).

Nell Gauge –GOOD -- Train Station owner and radio show host. Stage age: 40s – 50s Not a woman to be trifled with!

Ginger S. Knapp –VERY GOOD -- Her niece - sweet young thing – singer. Wants desperately to get away from Flagstop. Stage age late teens – to late 20s. She’s supposed to be 20. Reads Movie Magazines as though they were books of etiquette; how to behave, what to say, what to wear, etc.

Squeeky Wheel—SORTA GOOD BUT GULLIBLE - slow sidekick – handy man at the station Stage age: 50s to 70s

Hugh Swindler—REAL BAD -- The Villain; made his money swindling others. Has bought up all the buildings in town, plus all the railroad stock, in hopes of shutting down Flagstop. Stage age: 40s to 50s

Divinity and Praline Skillet, SILLY, SWEET AND GOOD. The Two Sisters aren’t twins but they TRY to look just alike, dress alike, act alike, talk alike. Stage age: One of them is in her 30s, the other is a bit older.

Dusty Boles (aka Hardy Gypsum) – HOBO. GOOD BUT MYSTERIOUS from the firm Gypsum and Howe– Back East Lawyer down on his luckStage age: 30s to 40s

Sterling Worth – CLEAN GOOD. Our Hero. A bit of a mystery. Stage age: 20s to early 30s.

Fuchsia Wellborn – BAD The Diva/Silent Screen Star and Villainess. A little over the hill, on the slippery side of

Roland Stock --- GOOD, Pharmacist/Professor who helps out with the secret formula, ingredients, chemical stuff. Stage Age: 40s to 50s

Cliff Hanger – APPEARS BAD, BUT IS GOOD. Stage age about anything will do except teen. Ima Standin – card girl, can play every part in the play, knows all the lines (her middle name is Still). Stage age: youngish

Justine Thyme – another card girl……we’ll need another fer sure.

M. C. – Mr. Conductor, dressed as old timey train conductor -- starts the proceedings, keeps things moving, and leads the singing before show and during intermission.

Be Prepared: Please bring sheet music and be prepared to sing a few measures from an upbeat tune that shows off your range and style. Cold readings from the script. No monologue necessary. Rehearsals begin April 6. Most rehearsals Mon., Tues., Thurs. at Fantasy.

Theatre Huntsville and Huntsville High announces auditions for "The Sound of Music".

Date and Times:

Auditions will be held at Huntsville High School.

Synopsis: When a postulant proves too high-spirited for the religious life, she is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain, and they marry. Upon returning from their honeymoon they discover that Austria has been invaded by the Nazis, who demand the Captain's immediate service in their navy. The family's narrow escape over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II provides one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales ever presented in the theatre.

Be Prepared: A workshop on "How to Audition for a Musical" will be held on Wed. March 10 @ 6:30 pm. It's recommended that auditionees attend, but not mandatory. Also, auditionees must prepare a memorized song in their vocal range. Sixteen bars is recommended.
