What Money Won't Buy
From the musical Batter Up
What money won’t buy, not a lot
You can try, but so what
You can try on your own
You might think you’re strong, but you’re not
Money’s a chain on your soul
It’s a drain, it’s a hole
It’s a promise that’s never delivered
A thing but a lie
What money won’t buy, not the sky
Won’t buy, not the sea
Won’t buy ‘most anything but me
Yeah, money is cool like a frost
And the fool who is lost
Think s he rules what he owns?
Well, the money controls, it’s the boss
If you want to know who’s the king
Who’s the who pulls the strings
Then you follow the money and look at the
Things that go by
What money won’t buy, not the sky
Won’t buy, not the sea
Won’t buy ‘most anything but me
Money’s a serpent that crawls in your belly
It tortures your mind and clutches your heart
You try to get free
How hard can it be?
But sooner or later the love of it tears you apart
Yeah money can buy, buy it all
If you climb, then you fall
Give it time, you’ll bemoan
Ever listening to that siren call
Some things are free, that’s a fact
But you see it’s the lack
Of the money that finally forced me
To my knees
Money bought me
Money bought me
Money bought me
Money surely bought me.
