We Regret To Inform You

We regret to inform you
Your boy will not come home
He died in a battle
Far away and all alone
He fell in a battle
You must be filled with pride
It was not for nothing that he died
It was not for nothing
He took the fatal blow
His comrades are living
To him their lives they owe
The last words he uttered
As he fell from a foreign sky
It is not for nothing that I die
My son may be a hero
With medals on his chest
But was a helpless baby
I remember best
No more will I ever know
His tender goodnight kiss
Nothing you can say can alter this
The enemy were many
We hadn't got a prayer
But your brave boy was constant
He held his courage there
Because he was a soldier
And took it in his stride
It was not for nothing that he died
No more will he be with us
Our comrade's been laid low
But his spirit is soaring
And he sees us down below
His spirit is soaring
A warrior up on high
It was not for nothing that he died
I'll wait until the sunrise
And pray to see him home
No words you write will change things
I’ll wait here all alone
Don't speak to me of bravery
Of courage or of pride
For surely a part of me has died
| We regret to inform you | My son may be a hero |
| Your boy will not come home | With medals on his chest |
| He died in a battle | But was a helpless baby |
| Far away and all alone | remember best |
| He fell in a battle | Don't speak to me of bravery |
| You must be filled with pride | Of courage or of pride |
| It was not for nothing that he died | For surely a part of me has died |
It was not for nothing that he died
