Time Is a Thief
Time is a thief and a sly one
He only steals moments away
Each hour and minute
Has so much within it
So much to make up each day
Time is a bandit, and cruel
He takes the one thing that we lack
Each minute and hour
Is filled with a power
When they’re gone, there’s no bringing them back
But each moment with you
Is a moment that’s true
Truly lived in a light
That is painfully bright
I can see who we are
I can see what we’re going to be
By and by, given time
You must know that I’m
Gonna steal back each day
I’ve let slip away
‘Till every day time has stolen
Is restored back to you and to me
Time is a liar, he’ll tell me
Now’s not enough, I need more
He’ll fill up my plate when
I’ve done some waitin’
But he won’t say what I’m waiting for
Now you are here
Now it’s all clear
You’re just what I need
Wherever you lead
We’ll both go there,
Though we cannot imagine just how
Time is a thief
He colors each leaf
They fall to the ground
Making hardly a sound
We’ll stand there and catch them
It will always be forever now
Time is a thief and a strong one
He wrestles with us everyday
Each moment’s the last one
We’ll never get past one
Unless we can learn what to say
Here’s what we say to that old thief,
“We know how to keep you at bay.
By love and desire
We can build our lives higher
Than anything you steal away.
Forever’s not too far away.”
