Folk Tunes
Folk music. Music for folk, by folk, of folk. Folkien. Is this a grab bag, or what? There's some pretty tunes in here, if I do say so myself, and I obviously did.
| Going Out To Ely | Another road song. God, don't we have enough of these? |
| Prodigal Son | Yeah, that prodigal son. |
| Different Game | Many things in life are like games. Why do we play even after we understand that? |
| Kindness of Strangers | Okay, so the title was inspired by Tennessee Williams. And the story, sort of. But not the tune! |
| Changes | A guy wants to be a wizard, but things don't always work out. |
| Time Is A Thief | This is no mystery. The mystery is why we let it happen. So many wasted moments. |
| I've Misunderstood | When did a guy ever get it right? Generally when it's almost too late to do anything right. Right? This song is from the musical, Double Entendre. |
| Carol, She's A Song | There are special women in the world who know magic without necessarily practicing it. It's just an integral part of them. |
| First Person Singular | A play on grammar (play for pity, that is) |
| Mama, Sing Me a Song | Written originally during the 1990 Gulf War, it's a song about a child, and the effect war has the child. Featured in the Walton County folk musical, Grit & Grace 2002: Letters From the Home Front. |
| We Regret To Inform | A song about those fallen in war, and the mothers who receive the telegram. Featured in the Walton County folk musical, Grit & Grace 2002: Letters From the Home Front. |
| Tara | Another literary allusion, this time to Margaret Mitchell's masterpiece, Gone With the Wind. |
| Old Khayyam | Yet another song based on literature: the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. |
