The Christmas Carving

6 Men, 5 Women, 1 Boy, Chorus
2 acts, 89 pages
16 songs

A humorous and moving (and totally fictional!) account of the origins of St. Nicholas, The Christmas Carving tells the story of Nicholas Walken, a young and gifted woodcarver, as he strives to balance his poverty, his childhood sweetheart, his mother's poor health and his incredible ability to create art from pieces of wood. Which, with the help of his friend Jan, as well as a Mysterious Stranger in town, he might just accomplish, but not in any way he expected. Don't expect history in this play: like they say, this may not be the way it all happened, but it should have! First performed at Grace Lutheran Church in Winchester, Wisconsin in December, 2003. Slated for performance in December, 2007, at the Hartselle Fine Arts Center, Hartselle, Alabama.
